Are you feeling blue?

Today is officially "Blue Monday." There are various reasons for this, from the lack of daylight hours to the timing of Christmas bills. Today has been dubbed the most depressing day of the year.

Isn't it good to know that we have so many reasons not to be depressed?!

So how do we get out of a funk if we're feeling one?

Psalms 68:3
But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God;
may they be happy and joyful.
NIV

Make the choice to rejoice.
Thank the Lord for all the things He has done. Rejoice in Him today.
He has been good.
Think of all the things we have to be thankful for, they are many.

Prov 15:30
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart,

and good news gives health to the bones.
NIV

Spread some cheer, SMILE at someone.
Give a compliment, do something to lift someone elses heart.
Call a friend, drop an email just to say hello.
I promise that it will lift your spirits also.

Got worry??
Phil 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything,
but in everything, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
NIV

Remember that as children of God, the fruit of the Spirit abides in us.
Gal 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is

love,
joy,
peace,
patience,
kindness,
goodness,
faithfulness,
gentleness
and self-control.
NIV

Can we stay depressed when He has given us so much?
If it was only that He loved us, I believe that would be enough.

Hope you have a wonderful Monday!!!!
Hugs,
Sue

Our sermon yesterday was Psalms 100. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. It was such a glorious service with the presense of God.

An aside, I think the reason it was called Blue Monday was because years ago, in my mothers day, the woman ALWAYS did the wash on Monday and they used a product called Bluing in the water to brighten the whites. I remember seeing her use it. It was also in a dark blue bottle. Then of course the laundry was hung on the clothes line outside to dry.

Good Morning my friend,

I have never heard of blue day.

Today is a happy happy day for me.

I 'm rejoicing today because 12 souls were saved and 6 were baptized yesterday at church.

I'm, smiling today because..well I just like to.

I'm not a worrier. Life is just darn short for that.

Smiles and big hugs.

Wow... how appropriately timed! We suffered probably the most difficult day in the history of our church yesterday when we had to exercise church discipline. It's the only time I've ever seen church discipline carried out and while I know it was necessary and the church will be stronger for standing against sin... it was a tough day. Thank you for such an encouraging post on Blue Monday!

Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised!

A good little post that probably should be printed and tucked away for whenever some 'cheering up' or 'refocusing' is needed.

Thanks Sue, I have been fighting for joy...this adoption wait and now news on the future of Guatemala really has tried to drag me down. The Holy Spirit kindly reminded me that I was being 'forgetful' of all God has done for me..ouch!

thanks for this post.

Thank you for the words of encouragement.....I don't get down too often. Focusing on Him and doing for others ususally gets me out of being down....the Word always lifts us up and words from friends that He sends are always great lifters....May He be the Lifter of our heads today...Psalm 3:3

Annie,
Me too!

Monkey Giggles,
That is awesome, truly a reason to rejoice!!

Kimmie,
I'm sure it is hard to stop focusing or obsessing on it, I know it would be for me too.
Thankfulness is a beautiful thing!

Marylou,
That is one of my favorite verses!!

Hello Sue-I was "blog hopping" and read your wonderful post. I find that even in the toughest of times, because of Christ in my life, I can still carry His joy. I can smile because I know He can do more than I can even expect in whatever I am facing. The "blues" really don't carry me for very long anymore-thanks to God's presence.

My heart is very heavy... not for myself but rather motherly concerns. As a spiritual Mom to our church body, some times the load seems heavy - especially today.

So thanks for the positive reminders and verses.
