My 100th Post!!

Congratulations Hope!!! (Chosen with the random number generator.)
Email me your address and I will get your praise and coffee right out to you!

I loved doing this!
Thanks so much to everyone who commented, I’ve made all kinds of new friends!
I will definitely be doing more giveaways so keep an eye out!

ALSO…
This is my 100th post!
I can’t believe I’ve only been blogging for 6 months.
I have loved meeting so many new friends from around the world. It has been so much fun.

I know that I am supposed to write 100 things about myself, but I can’t come up with more than 12 so here’s what I’m thinking…

If you want to know something about me,
just post a comment with a question in it
and I will comment back the answer!
That way you aren’t wasting your time reading about how I live on chips and salsa or that I am 5’9” tall.

Warning… if you ask me something, you run the risk of me posting a random question on your blog too! :P
Blessings,

Thank you gibee!

Oh Susan! I’ve never even personally written that down!
But here goes with the SHORT version…

I was raised Catholic, but even my folks will attest to the fact that we were not good Catholics, only attended church occasionally.

I remember when I was a little girl going through classes to receive my first communion. The teacher told me to draw a picture of what I pictured God to be like. I broke into tears because I had no idea. I’m not sure what the other kids drew, but they were all busy at work while I sat there crying.

So fast-forward to my high school years at a Catholic high school. (We had started attending church more regularly by then). I remember feeling like I would like to serve God, but thought that the only TRUE way to do it was to become and nun, and I already knew that wasn’t going to work for me.

My parents went to another church, a non-denominational one, and they gave their hearts to the Lord. Eventually we left the Catholic Church and started attending this other church.

When I heard the gospel presented, I received it right away. I was so thrilled to find out that God was more about relationship than He was religion!!

This verse in Matthew was the one the Lord used to speak to me:
Matt 11:28-30
28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
NIV

nancygrayce- yup 5'9" I always hated my height growing up, but now I love it! I am trying to convince my daughter who is the same height as me now that it is a good thing, but as she towers over the boys, she's not so convinced! Been there done that!

you can come take my blog hostage any time you want...just take over...your sweetness is so compelling, the God in you is so inviting...i can identify with the catholic upbringing---I went to an all-girl catholic school for 12 years...here's my random question...How did you get to the place you are today of such childlike faith when you didn't have a childhood of faith?

Praise and Coffee said...

Bev,
Oh my goodness! Are you sure you don't want to know my favorite color or something?? ;)

The Lord is so good, I would have to say that whatever you see in my now is a result of lots of great teaching in His Word and plenty of trials and pain. If I hadn't gone through some very painful things, I would be the shallowest of people. But walking through a storm or trial and coming to KNOW my God as comfort, hope and security has been the biggest teacher of all! It has made me love Him deeper than any mountain top could!

I understand how Paul can give thanks in all things. It's all things that make us His children, not just the good things.

Two Shoe Sue...i had three kids in three years and we were always looking for something like shoes or socks or purses or pacifiers or...i think Brooke would have on "no shoes" and the compliment of having on "two shoes" stuck...even her college friends knew her as Brookie 2 Shoes...how silly fun is that? your comment made me smile...

Praise and Coffee said...

Bev- and if anyone is interested, that would have been a good one for my 100 things about me...my nickname as a little girl (and an adult when I'm around me Dad) is "twoshoes"

Bev Brandon @ The Fray said...

ps - i just saw your answer---now i'm doing the blog hostage thing...

i just have to say your words are so compelling to me...makes me want to say to my good God---okay, God, let the overwhelming pain remain so that i can be like sue who lives out of psalm 119:71 for it is good to be afflicted that we may know You and Your Word! thanks so much for humbly answering my question...

this is my last post, promise, i have to go back to work grading papers for a living so they don't turn off my blog...

Bev,
I keep thinking about what I said and I feel the need to say that many times, my pain was self-inflicted. It was things that God needed to purge out of me and it hurt!
I am so thankful that He has allowed me to go through times of sifting. It was horrible at the time, but when I took the time to go to Him and find out "why?" He is so faithful to show me.

You're 5'9? You're practically a giant! :-)

Let's see....here's my question.....

who is the one person (other than Jesus, He's pretty obvious...:-)) who has influenced you the most in your life, in a good way?

Praise and Coffee said...

Alisun!
As you well know, that would be the time that YOU and I went through a drive-thru and when we got to the window, realized that we drove right past the order window because we were talking!
LOL

Ruth,
I want to do a cupppa_______ too!(it'd be coffee for me!)

My husband and I met while working next door to each other. I was working at a Christian bookstore and he at a muffler place.
Our actual meeting was at a car accident out in front of our building. It ended up being his Grandma and Grandpa and his Grandpa was killed.
Crazy huh?!
I had no idea that while I sat with a sweet older lady and wiped glass off her face, it would be my own Grandma-in-law just a year and a half later.
When our first son was born, Grandma said that Grandpa left this earth so that Matt could be born.

Pam,
I love the fall! Because of the crisp-cool air (it is so humid in Michigan all summer) and the beautiful color of the leaves. It always makes me feel so "cup or cocoa" cozy!

Susan,
My husband wanted more kids. I did not. I was content. Then God....

He softened my heart, we tried to have our own, but it never happened. So after 2 years I started looking at adoption agencies.

On January 1, 2005 I opened my email from and agency and there was our little girl. Mark and I both knew that was her. We prayed and God opened the doors financially so we did it!

Now, watch I'll end up pregnant at 45 or something!!

Praise and Coffee said...

Janet! You are funny! I prefer Amazon Woman. J/K!

Wow, who knew that you would all get this Barbara Walters annointing on you????

That is a hard question....
Honestly, the person who has had the most impact on me personally besides parents is Beth Moore.
Even though we've never met, I consider her like a mentor. The Lord has spoken through her ministry so powerfully in my life. She has helped me fall in love with Him by her example.

But if it is a person who I KNOW, than it would be my husband. He has taught me so much. I respect him more than any other person on the planet. He's the real deal. He's my bestest friend!

I would like to know, what would you say has been your largest struggle teaching your children about God and faith?

Praise and Coffee said...

Cynthia,
Unfortunately that's an easy one...living it.
I have no problem teaching them to ways of God and His truth, but it scares the daylights out of me that my life is a bigger lesson to them. I know that I fail daily.

Thankfully, His mercy is new every morning. I pray everyday to be the wife, Mom and child of God that He wants me to be.

I would like to add a few questions if that's OK for your 100th post. Where do your family originate? I love asking folk what their family background is, prior to living in the States or whatever, just that heritage thing. Second question - do you have a Rhema verse for your life. Third question - what countries have you travelled too, what is your favourite? Fourth question (are you getting fed up yet..thats not the question though), what dreams do you have yet that you'd love to fulfill? And finally fifth question - what are your favourite books you've read this year? Gosh, I really am a curious George aren't I?

Praise and Coffee said...

happygeek...that's pretty much it!

J/K
I have been spending as much time as I can writing lately. Working on a couple of projects that I hope to publish.
I love music and working in my yard. Right now, life is so consumed with a toddler, that I don't have time to "play" like I used to. I loved shopping, coffee shops and lunch with friends.
Someday I'll be doing that again!

Praise and Coffee said...

Ok Karen- great questions! It took me a little while to do this one, but here goes:

Where do your family originate? Lithuania, my Grandmother’s family came over on the boat.

Second question - do you have a Rhema verse for your life.
This is one that I think on all the time and it is life and hope to me.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.

Third question - what countries have you travelled too, what is your favourite?
Mexico, Canada, & China. My favorite was China because that is the birth home of our daughter. Hubby went to Israel though and he loved it so much, I want to go!

Fourth question (are you getting fed up yet..thats not the question though), what dreams do you have yet that you'd love to fulfill?
No, I think it’s sweet that you are asking!
I would love to publish the book I’ve been writing, and I have a couple things that I’m praying about, not quite ready to share yet! You all will be the first (or second) to know!

And finally fifth question - what are your favourite books you've read this year? Gosh, I really am a curious George aren't I?
I loved "Get Out of that Pit" by Beth Moore. I am reading "Desiring God" and a new devotional book by John Piper. I loved Matt Redman’s "FaceDown"…
Right now I’m also reading about how to design web and print…not very fun though!

Thanks for the great questions! You all have really surprised me today!
I thought it would be things like- how many pets, (2 dogs), what’s your real hair color…(not sure anymore)?

israel -- you guys should come with my mom and dad. every year (for almost 10 years)they lead a team of indigenous people that go to israel to bless the land and encourage the people. it's way better then a normal tour because they go into the homes, hospitals, orphanages etc etc and connect with real hearts that are often hurting.

so. very. awesome.

Curious about the tenderness in your life---how'd God get it there? Curious about the huge heart wrapped around Him---how'd God get it there? Curious about the obsession with others---how'd God give you a heart for others? Curious about you...

Curious about the tenderness in your life---how'd God get it there? Curious about the huge heart wrapped around Him---how'd God get it there? Curious about the obsession with others---how'd God give you a heart for others? Curious about you...

Bev,
Not even sure where to start with this answer.
I think it might take a lifetime to explain it all...it's taken a lifetime to get here!

I think that the most "good" and "God" that comes out of me is from walking through painful times myself and with others.

We've been in pastoral ministry for the last 12 years. We've counseled so many people. I think we have dealt with almost every situation to deal with.

Through it all I have looked to the Lord to be my hope and strength. I have learned that I can't do this on my own. I need Him desperately and when I cry out desperately- He has shown Himself so incredibly in my life.

One very defining thing that I choose not to elaborate on is the pain of walking through being wounded at the hands of other Christians several years ago. It is one of the deepest pains I have ever felt.
NO one side is ever all to blame, but we were treated really awful by people that we loved and trusted and it changed me.
At first for the worse, and now for the better.
There has been forgiveness and healing, and now I use the past to learn from and have compassion on others who are hurting.

Walking through that pain and finding the Lord as "enough" for me brought me to a place in Him that I never knew before.

Good for you on the 100th post! REALLY RANDOM-- What is your view of fasting and where is it's place in today's christian?

Praise and Coffee said...

Good for you on the 100th post! REALLY RANDOM-- What is your view of fasting and where is it's place in today's christian?

Tamatha,
I love the fasting heart that says "Lord, I want You more than ____________"

I think that fasting in the NT involves much more than food. I believe that we fast to lay aside the weights that keep us from serving Him. To die to self. To put Him first. To hear Him more clearly as we get our flesh and all of it's desires out of the way.

My concern with fasting is that some people fast to "make" things happen. I don't believe that fasting puts God's hand behind His back until He cries "uncle!" and gives people what they want.
That is an inaccurate view of fasting in my opinion.

I hope that answers your question! :)
