The Storm is NOT the Problem

There are many "storms" brewing these days.

The financial crisis in this country is beyond ignoring anymore. I have yet to meet one person who has not been affected by it. The wars and rumors of wars are troubling.

Because of this, many families are struggling, marriages are under tremendous pressure and people are just plain worried about tomorrow and what it will bring.

But in these verses, Jesus gives us a word picture that gives us hope.

Matt 7:24-27

24 "Anyone who listens to my teaching and obeys me is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.

25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse, because it is built on rock.

26 But anyone who hears my teaching and ignores it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.

27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will fall with a mighty crash."
NLT

Two houses, side by side...same storm hits both houses. One stands, one falls.

Our natural thinking would tell us that one of the storms was harder and stronger, but that is not the case in the scenario that Jesus paints for us.

The only difference was the foundation of each house. One built on solid rock, one built on sand.
Then He explains how that applies to us personally:

Matt 7:24
Anyone who listens to my teaching and obeys me is wise

Matt 7:26
But anyone who hears my teaching and ignores it is foolish

The storm-no matter how big, loud or awesome it is- is not the problem.
The problem comes when we don't obey God's Word and how He tells us to live our lives.

Our foundations become solid when we obey God's Word.

It's time to live what we believe, live it loud and don't compromise- no matter what that compromise seems to promise.

Be wise in the way we live. Live with integrity, honor the Lord.

Oh - what a wonderful Word for all of us! I love what you said about the same storm hitting both houses!

Just this morning the Lord spoke to me about the truth that He is IN the storms with us - not watching from the side lines - but He is IN the thunder that rocks our world. He is IN the downpour that changes our days. He is IN the tidal waves that crash into our lives and overwhelm us (from Psalm 42).

Obviously God is working and calling each of us to draw near to Him before the storms hit - so that we can see Him IN the storms when they do.

Thanks for sharing this truth!

Thank you so much for the reminder, Sue! This has been the "theme" of my life lately...through some really difficult circumstances that we have been facing, God has just been reminding me that my focus should be on being FAITHFUL TO HIS WORD no matter what our circumstances. To walk daily in faith! That is our calling. Yesterday I saw one of those wooden things you put on a shelf...the words you can by...they say things like love, welcome, etc. This one said "faith". It was in black painted wood, and I had to buy it and put it on my piano in my living room...because it is becoming what I cling to amidst hard times. Just walk in faith. Now everytime I walk in my living room I am reminded. FAITH.

I appreciated reading your post today, as it is another confirmation of what God is saying to me!

God bless!

So true..We so often want to do things "our way" and are disobedient to "Gods Way".
What I do know from experience and still learning is the Lord never brings us to something, that HE will always bring us thru it. We serve a Lord that is FAITHFUL, in the storm and the Blessings..
Keep speaking Blessing, The Lord will deliver..He always does!
Love ya!

All I can say is Amen!
Thank you for including the verses as well.
This is not the time for couples to be fighting each other. We need to unite, listen and live by the Word.
Oh, by the way, I love your blog. It's so inspirational.
