Hot Topics

I have always wanted to do a talk show like The View, but from a Christian point of View. My girlfriend and I did a couple mock talkshows for our ladies ministry called, “The Way We See It” and had a blast. We even invited guests like “Mertha Stewart” and “Super Ninny” (aka Super Nanny).

You seemed to really enjoy the Victoria Beckham post, so, I’m thinking that I am going to start doing Hot Topics on Praise and Coffee. I think that we all have a lot to say about things and we need a good outlet to get our point of VIEW out don’t you think??? Maybe some producer will pick this up and I’ll be calling you to be guests on the show! : P

Today’s topics: Hollywood’s Young Starlets
You can’t turn on a news channel without hearing about the young Starlets gone astray these days. Lindsay, Brittany, Paris….the list goes on.
My heart breaks for these young girls, they are so lost and in need of a Savior.

Eph 4:17-19
18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.
19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.
NIV

This is a good description of where they are now, but how did they get there?
We don’t really know the whole story in their lives, but they’re real drama is that they don’t have a personal, intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord would fill every hurt and need that they have. He would show them healthy boundaries and give them hope for tomorrow.

I am so sad for these young girls who are struggling to find out who they are and what their purpose is. They obviously haven’t found the love of God, so they flounder in front of the world and the world is not kind to them in the process.

Luke 19:10
10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."
NIV

I think the word LOST best describes the state that these kids are in.

So, we should pray for them. Yes.
However, I don’t believe that means that we also stand idly by and let them dictate the culture to our children.
We talk to our kids about it. We teach them what God’s Word says.
We help our daughters/sons avoid these pitfalls by teaching them that they are created by God for a purpose.

To know Him and make Him known.
I just love Him and His love has so radically changed my life, that I want these hurting people to know that love too!
Dont' you?!

Love,
Sue

Victoria Beckham

(Got your attention on that title didn't I!)

I must confess.
Lauren was sick this week and while I was rocking her those long hours, I mindlessly watched the dumbest show that I’ve seen in a long time.
It was the one about Victoria Beckham coming to America.
To say the least, I was unimpressed.

Ok, I’ll be nice.

As the show follows her very self-centered life of house hunting and how to look pouty for the paparazzi, I picked up on one of her favorite sayings,

“MAJOR”…which she pronounces “may-juh”.

She uses it to describe most everything and even stated it by itself sometimes.

I kept thinking about that word and how it makes me think about the Lord. (That may seem like a stretch to some of you- but it's how my mind works!)

Here’s what the dictionary says:
Major (adjective):
greater in dignity, rank, importance, or interest

Major (noun):
one that is superior in rank, importance, size, or performance

I think I know a God like that.
It’s my God, He’s MAJOR!

Ps 7:17
17 I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness
and will sing praise to the name of the
LORD Most High.
NIV

Ps 18:13
13 The LORD thundered from heaven;
the voice of the Most High resounded.
NIV

Ps 47:2
2 How awesome is the LORD Most High,
the great King over all the earth!
NIV

Rev 4:11
11 "You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being."
NIV

Rev 15:4
4 Who will not fear you, O Lord,
and bring glory to your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed."
NIV

The show left me quite unimpressed with VB, and sad for her really. I pray that she would find Him and His love because she seems to live quite an empty existence.

I hope that she and all of us consider what/who really is major.

What pleases us?

Do you ever get "cravings?"
I do.
Sometimes I have felt so strongly that I NEED something.
I can become obsessed with wanting it.
It may be a small thing like chocolate/food...or it could be overwhelming NEED to go shopping because surely there is something out there that will fill this emptiness in me.

We are all at different places, but the tricks of temptation are the same.

Gen 3:1
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"
Lie #1= Are you sure this is really wrong????

2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,

3 but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'"

4 "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman.
Lie #2= What God said is NOT true. It really won't hurt you at all to sin.

5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
Lie #3= The truth is- it will be a GOOD thing for you to sin. It will make things BETTER!

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

All temptation takes this same road- satan has NO NEW TRICKS!
Do you think Eve was satisfied after she sinned?

I want, I need. These are thoughts that we need to keep in check. They may be the temptation to a trap.

Surely this will please me! But does it?
Do we really feel satisfied after indulging?

Could it be the temptation of a relationship that is drawing you? If the "friendship" has to be a secret- watch out ladies- satan is lurking!
Not all things that we desire are dangerous or sinful. But watch for the thoughts of "need" and "must have."
Ask yourself, why?
I love to shop, and chocolate is my friend! But when I start using these things to fill a need that God wants to fill, it becomes sinful.
(I use the example of chocolate, but sometimes it's just food in general!)

The whole thought for this post came from a phrase that has been going over and over in my head. It is one that John Piper wrote,
"we are far too easily pleased."
I know that I am far too easily pleased. I will settle for a "quick fix" of fun instead of lasting joy that comes from my times with the Lord.

It's like being parched, thirsting so desperately...
but then when offered a bottle of water,
we admire the label and the bottle but never open it and pour it into our mouth to receive the refreshment and nourishment that we need.

God has so much more for us.
We are far too easily pleased.
Another quote by John Piper that I look at every day:
"God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in Him."
As I'm writing this, this song just happens to be playing on my computer,
let it be the prayer of your heart, it's mine today.

None But Jesus

In the quiet, in the stillness
I know that You are God
In the secret of Your presence
I know there I am restored

When You call I won’t refuse
Each new day again I’ll choose

There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring Him praise

In the chaos, in confusion
I know You’re Sovereign still
In the moment of my weakness
You give me grace to do Your will

When You call I won’t delay
This my song through all my days
All my delight is in You Lord
All of my hope, all of my strength
All my delight is in You Lord
Forevermore

He Lives In Us!

God, help me to live a gracious life that reflects the YOU on the inside of me!

Wisdom

1 Cor 1:18-25
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

19 For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."

20 Where is the wise man?
Where is the scholar?
Where is the philosopher of this age?
Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him,
God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

22 Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,

24 but to those whom God has called,
both Jews and Greeks,
Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom,
and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.
NIV

As I watch the news these days (I am a FOXNEWS addict),
I am amazed at the foolishness of this world and how it clamors so desperately for wisdom.

God is the source of all wisdom.
To delete Him from the equation is mere foolishness.

He, after all, DID create everything we see.

Just a thought.

Home from Texas!

Wow, I don’t even know where to start. My heart is still overwhelmed by our weekend.

It all started Wednesday morning as we headed out in the motor home for our 22 hour drive to San Antonio, TX. We were blessed to have Mark’s folks come with us, they were such a big help and Matt loved having them there.

We arrived at Lackland Air Force Base and headed to the Reception Center where we were briefed on the activities involved in graduation and our expected behavior on the base.

The first time we saw Matt, was when he ran by us for the ceremonial “Airman’s Run” signifying the last time they would do their morning run as “trainees.” Matt had a grin ear to ear as he saw us, we laughed so hard.

Then we went to the coin ceremony. This is where he received his coin that signified his becoming an Airman. It was then that we could finally go see him! He’s not allowed to be involved in any major PDA, so I waited until we got back to the motorhome to wrap my arms around him like a good Momma should!

We were all so tired that we just hung out all day in the motorhome on base.

The next morning was graduation. What an incredible experience to see our little boy, now standing there a fine young man. He was the Guidon for his flight squad, so he walked out in front with his instructor and carried their flag. I just have to say that he looked so good!

I just cried seeing him out there, we were so proud of him.

We spent the rest of the weekend on and off the base trying to soak up every minute together with our family.

One of the best parts of the weekend was church on Sunday morning. Matt was so excited to take us to his church. It is a very contemporary non-denominational service.

Every week they play the video, “Letters From War” by Mark Schultz. Picture standing in a big church that is packed out (standing room only) with military men. We were surrounded by camouflage and dress blues and when they watched the video, they erupted in shouts, they cheered and gave thunderous applause!

They have Airmen walk up and down the aisle with kleenex-that's a very good thing! I was bawling.

The video is hard enough to watch, but seeing their response made it even more emotional.

It was so hard to say goodbye again. Thankfully though, he now has his laptop and cell phone so we will be able to communicate with him on a regular basis.

Matt continues his training at the Lackland Base. He is going to technical school for the Security Forces for the next 14 weeks. We should find out then where he will be based as a Military Policeman. I am hoping that is will be stateside, but I pray God’s will would be done. I want him right in the middle of God’s plan for his life.

Now I have the wonderful honor of the title "Air Force Mom"...I'm so proud of my son.

The Name of JESUS!

Hello!
Back from a very busy and HOT weekend at the races. I don't think our trailer has ever been so busy! It was lots of fun and "our boys" on Team Allegan Motorsports did great! One of them is on his way to Belgium to compete on Team USA- go Jacob!!

I have been tagged twice, you sweet girls! Dori and Tammie Fay both want me to share the five things I dig about Jesus. I am the first to admit, I'm not very good at keeping up with these tags. But of course I would love to share the things I love about my Jesus!

Unfortunately, I don't have enough time today to share five things, because I am un-packing and re-packing the motorhome to go to TEXAS to see my son graduate from the Air Force basic training!!!

But I want to share one for sure! (With more to come in the future.)

It is that I LOVE the name of Jesus!
I love that name.
His Name is LIFE!
His Name is TRUTH!
His Name is the reason I live!

His Name is the name above ALL names! I love that I can call upon His Name at any time! I love that the Father gave ME (and YOU) the name of Jesus as a sign of our covenant with Him.

Phil 2:5-12
5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death- even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
NIV

I found this video of Dori's blog and it says it so well, I love it!!!

Blessings,
Sue

I'm Going GREEN!

No, it’s not what you think. I won’t be driving a hybrid car any day soon, in fact I drive one of the worst offenders, an Excursion.

Psalms 23:1-3
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
3 He restores my soul.
NIV

David wrote this before coming to the crown. Yet he believed that God would be his shepherd and give him everything he needed.
He had great confidence in the Lord.
He believed his God.
He knew his God.

He makes me lie down in green pastures…
He is the provider of all nourishment I will ever need, physically and spiritually.
He is all sufficient.
Let’s not think that it’s enough to pass through His green pastures, He wants us to lie down there and live off of His daily bread.

He leads me beside quiet (still) waters…
His Word is a cool drink to those that are weary and thirst.
He refreshes us with His Word, He is a fountain of living water.

He restores my soul…
Those words bring such comfort to me.

Here is the description of the Greek word “restore”:
OT:7725
To pull in again, put (again, up again), recall,
recompense, recover, refresh, relieve, render
(again), requite, rescue, restore, retrieve,
(cause to, make to) return, reverse, reward,
say nay, send back, set again
(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

He is so faithful and good. He wants to make us new again!
His only requirement is that we become His sheep.
That we surrender our lives to the Shepherd of our souls.

If you are reading this and you have never made Jesus Christ the Shepherd/Lord/King of your life or you’ve walked away and want to re-dedicate yourself to Him, you can do it right now. There is no specific words to say, just pour your heart out to Him. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins and come into your life. He will make you new. He will become your Shepherd.
Please let me know if you do, I want to be praying for you.

Let's GO GREEN- let's lie down in those pastures and drink from His cool water!
Let's LET Him restore our souls!

The Way, the Truth and the LIFE

If your dreams don’t scare you,

they’re not big enough!

What has God put in your heart?

Do you know that nothing is impossible with God?

Really, do you believe that?

And one of my absolute favorite verses:

Do you have a dream?
Maybe FREEDOM is your dream.

Our only answer in this crazy dance of life is JESUS.

I don’t think that I really GET that most of the time.

He IS THE way.
HE IS THE truth.
He IS the LIFE.

We say…
“I don’t see a way out of this…”
IT’S HIM!

“I don’t know what to do…”
Trust HIM, He’s the truth- there’s no confusion in Him.

“I am so unhappy with my life…”
Make HIM your life.

Lay down your burdens and pick up your dreams again!!

Maybe it's a business or financial freedom or a happy marriage....

Maybe it's the thought of living free of addiction...

He's the only WAY!

If our dreams scare us, it's because we know that we don't have the means to bring them to pass- good! Because if we can do it on our own, we don't need Him.

Let's dream BIG! We have a BIG GOD!
Blessings,
Sue

Forget About Yourself

Hello, I'm home again (for a couple days)!
We are traveling so much this summer doing trackside support at motocross races. I'm actually gone more than I'm home, especially the month of July.

This weekend was crazy, we were at a National Pro race so it was busier than any race we've ever been at. We got to see Ricky Carmichael win his second to the last race before he retires!

But I miss blogging and we are hoping to get satellite internet in the motorhome, so I can keep up with you all!

I was reading this and it really touched me. It's from the Message Bible.

Forget About Yourself

29-31"What's the price of a pet canary? Some loose change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don't be intimidated by all this bully talk. You're worth more than a million canaries. (I've never thought about it that way before- ;) )

32-33"Stand up for me against world opinion and I'll stand up for you before my Father in heaven. If you turn tail and run, do you think I'll cover for you?

34-37"Don't think I've come to make life cozy. I've come to cut—make a sharp knife-cut between son and father, daughter and mother, bride and mother-in-law—cut through these cozy domestic arrangements and free you for God. Well-meaning family members can be your worst enemies. If you prefer father or mother over me, you don't deserve me. If you prefer son or daughter over me, you don't deserve me.

38-39"If you don't go all the way with me, through thick and thin, you don't deserve me. If your first concern is to look after yourself, you'll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you'll find both yourself and me. (Oh I love that!)

40-42"We are intimately linked in this harvest work. Anyone who accepts what you do, accepts me, the One who sent you. Anyone who accepts what I do accepts my Father, who sent me. Accepting a messenger of God is as good as being God's messenger. Accepting someone's help is as good as giving someone help. This is a large work I've called you into, but don't be overwhelmed by it. It's best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice. (Don't worry about hearing, YOU"RE FIRED here!) You won't lose out on a thing."

How cool is that, there is not one thing out there that God has for us that we will miss if we start acting like Him, and loving on the people He came and died for. It's all about HIM isn't it!?!

He is soooo good!
