Two shall become One ~ Building Hedges

Photobucket

I've received a few emails over the last year from Facebook friends that have decided to delete their accounts because the tempation to connect or RE-connect with a man online was to strong and they were worried about the direction their thought life had taken.

I commend them for this!

If there is any situation in our life that opens the door for us to build a relationship with someone besides our spouse, we need to be on guard against it and we need to distance ourself from it.

Social media can be a blessing or a curse, the decision is ours.

What starts out as an innocent conversation online could turn into a friendship that we cherish. From there it could become a relationship that we think about throughout the day and look forward to more communication with that person.

At this point, we've gone too far and need to cut it off. If not it could end up becoming something that destroys our family.

I want to share this article with you from "Focus on the Family" that offers really great information on the subject.
Check it out: Building Hedges Around Your Marriage

Also, here is an article that I wrote a while back about the temptation of affairs:
Cute Little Lion Cub

Whether it's through Facebook, your job or somewhere else, be on guard and protect your marriage.

I'm praying for our marriages,
Sue

Great post, Sue!

Social networks which help people "reconnect" with "old friends" have helped to damage MANY MARRIAGES... mine included. These networks do help to connect friends, but user beware... Wisdom is required!

I forgot to add that I posted on "Facebook Rules for Married Couples" & the effects of Facebook on our marriage last week... You might want to check it out! Unfortunately, it is a HUGE issue for many marriages.

A fantastic post and a much needed reminder...no one is exempt from temptation. The enemy is relentless. Praying for those who are unaware of the consequences of playing with fire. There are always consequences for every decision and action we take. Praying the Spirit will be convicting in the lives of God's children.
Thank you sister, God bless,
Cherie

I always figured that building those hedges and protecting one's marriage was part of the "hard work" of marriage.

While I rally against it in every other instance, this type of thing is often about appearances. We must never give the appearance that is even a chance for another option.

I have many male friends from my years working in law enforcement. DaHubby has become friends with one in particular. Yet, when that friend comes from out of state for a visit, we still wait for DaHubby to be home before the friend comes over to catch up.

Our former pastor said his rule was always always ALWAYS to leave his office door open when meeting with a woman alone. If she needed a more private venue, other arrangements would be made.

This point was really hit home when, soon after we were married, I was still in email contact with the man with whom I had a previous relationship of many years. DaHubby explained that no matter our intent, the appearance and just the "chance" of a misunderstanding and/or something going astray was just too great a chance to take in our early marriage. I resisted, argued but eventually and reluctantly agreed that he was right. That was "old life" which had no place in my "new life".

Great post to bring bring up some great discussion.

This is a wonderful post. It's amazing how something so "innocent" can ruin a marriage. This is a great post for everyone. Thanks again.

Our marriage is strong. However, I was playing Knights on facebook (a game played with other people both male and female). A male figure started flirting with me. My husband read everything. One comment from this man gave me the creeps. I showed it to Tony. I thought I had misread it. He assured me I did not misread it. I canceled the game and blocked the application. I don't have time for games anyway. I can see how tempting it might be for someone whose marriage is in trouble.
