Matthew 14: 24-31 (The Message Bible)
Meanwhile, the boat was far out to sea when the wind came up against them and they were battered by the waves. At about four o'clock in the morning, Jesus came toward them walking on the water. They were scared out of their wits. "A ghost!" they said, crying out in terror.
But Jesus was quick to comfort them. "Courage, it's me. Don't be afraid."
Peter, suddenly bold, said, "Master, if it's really you, call me to come to you on the water."
He said, "Come ahead."
Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus. But when he looked down at the waves churning beneath his feet, he lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried, "Master, save me!"
Jesus didn't hesitate. He reached down and grabbed his hand. Then he said, "Faint-heart, what got into you?"
Couple things jump out at me in this story.
1. Peter was fine until he looked down. 'nuf said.
2. Jesus didn't hesitate to help when he cried out.
Stop beating yourself up....God's not mad at you, He's right there ready to pull you up!

You know what jumped out at me while I read this?
JUMPING out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus.
Peter was immediate in his obedience...eager to please the Lord.
I love it Karla!!! Thanks.
Another thing I love about this story is that Peter was the only one willing to get out of the boat. The boat is our comfort zone, but outside that is where all the action is! I say we all need to "jump ship"!
v30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"
He saw the wind. He didn't feel it. As long as he kept his eyes on his Jesus and not the "problem" it couldn't touch him. It didn't say he felt the wind from the storm, but he saw it. Sometimes the storm rages all around us but God keeps us calm in the storm as long as we keep our eyes on Him and obey.
I get a mental picture of Peter jumping out of the boat, the waves crashing all around him and his hair not even blowing in the wind. Then suddenly it occured to him that there was a 50 foot swell beside him. He let fear enter, yet he was not overtaken by the wave.
Our storms may seem huge to us but our LORD is in control and as long as we follow Him in faith, they won't over take us, even if we begin to sink. We only need to cry out to Him.
He had faith enough to get out of the boat to get to Jesus but in what step did his faith falter ever so slightly?
I love where you said "Jesus didn't hesitate to help when he cried out." It doesn't matter how we lost sight of the Lord, where we lost our way, or what kind of mistakes we made - the point is that we cry out to God to get our footing back again. He will help us!
Amen to that!!!

Beautiful story! I love it! It's full of symbols.
Look down means: look on the material world, not on the spirit. To create such a wonder like walking over water, we must look on the spirit, not on the world. I believe that to what we turn our attention wie do attract.
Sorry for my english. I dont speak it very well, i come from Switzerland... ;-)
Oh, amen! God's wanting to bless us, not beat us up. Great post!
Just what I needed this morning... It's been a tough journey, but I know where I need to keep my eyes. God is just soo good... :)
