I think we have Trolls

I admit it.
I'm not a night owl.
By the time I get Lauren to bed, I could follow right behind her.

I usually stay up a little longer, but by 10 PM, I "start to turn orange" as my husband so sweetly likes to tease me about turning into a pumpkin. But he does tend to be right behind me!

Of course this means that I am up early.

Now...I know that many of you notice the strange times that I post ie: 4 or 5 AM. (Because a few of you have mentioned it!) ;P

THAT is because I have woken up and can not get back to sleep. Ah, 40 is a wonderful age of new and exciting opportunities!

Let me tell you...if I make it to 4:30 AM, I'm thrilled! I can deal with that! I get up and spend some time alone with the Lord and with YOU, and it's a good start to the day.

Sure, I could get lots of "other things" around the house done, but I don't want to wake anyone. So it's my quiet time. :)

BUT, when I wake at 2 AM and can't get back to sleep, it's not such a good day.

I can remember years ago (when I had 3 little ones under the age of 5 years old and I could barely get up in the morning to spend 2 minutes with the Lord) sitting in Bible studies and listening to these very Godly women tell of how they had been up since 3 AM the previous evening spending time with the Father.

That is wonderful, but in their heaping of guilt on this young mom, they fail to mention that they could not have fallen asleep if they tried!

However, back to my story, my (teenage) children ARE night owls. They can stay up quite late and then sleep until lunchtime if I let them. Which means that I wake up to all kinds of messes and "evidence" that I must lecture them on cleaning up the next day. But, who really knows what goes on once Ma and Pa are sleeping!

THIS morning, I woke up to a strange aroma as I
walked down the stairs and this on my stove:

Yes. A Jack's Pizza on my cooking stone with the middle eaten out of it.

I think we have trolls.

On that note, I hope you all have a wonderful New Years Eve!

I probably won't see midnight tonight, but I will be up early to post my new header and the details of my new Praise and Coffee giveaway!

Blessings and Happy New Year,

Sue

Strangely you sound so much like me! I praise God so much when I actually sleep past 4:00 am. Ah yes the 40's are an adventure!

High five Kim!

Who would deface a pizza in such manner!? The should have at least hidden the evidence.

You know what's funny ... you wake up when I go to bed! I'm such a night owl, I have to force myself to go to bed at 2 am (you'll see a lot of my posts are around that time)! Of course I'm an insomniac and I work from 5 pm - 10 pm, so that doesn't help things (I teach adults, which mean I work when they don't). I wish so much I could be an early bird like you ... I even gave up coffee (gasp)! We'll see ... maybe when I turn 40 I'll finally have it right. =)

Antique Mommy,
That would involve some cleaning up and actual afterthought. They know that the fairys get up before them every morning and take care of these things!

Cahleen,
You go girl! I'm sure if I had a job like yours, things would be different. But I "check in" around 6:30 AM everyday (when Lauren wakes up)!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love your troll story. I have seen evidence of a few around my home too! I am 47 and don't have "that" sleeping problem. I am a night owl and stay up too long. Then I hate to get up but have to at 5:30 to go to work!

I'm guessing wondering what they are doing in your house is better than wondering what they are doing OUT of your house?

And I'm a night owl...have to make myself go to bed before midnight. So if I'm up while you're blogging, I probably had to go potty!!!!! :)

I'm laughing because that is the sort of thing my husband would do! Not leave the mess for me, but eat the middle out of the pizza...LOL!

As for the sleeping, oh the joys of Lunesta. I take it about 3 times a month, when I see that my sleep patterns are going haywire. It gets my body back on a regular sleep cycle, and all is well.

Too funny! Trolls - LOL!

I tend to crash after 9pm if not busy doing something. If I sit down on the couch, forget it, I'm in la la land!

I also love the morning quiet time. The best part of my day is time with Jesus :)

I just read some of your postings. You are a truly inspirational woman. Thank you!

I am new to the blogspot world, and I was wondering if you would mind teaching me a few things???

Hey you!
I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who can justify 4 am...but not 2!
We have the same schedule. I am drowsy by 10 and up at 4, clockwork!!
We should have that first cup of coffee together!!
and I am only on the VERGE (albeit) the threshold of 40...by 45, I'll be up regularly by 3!!:)
Happy New Year!!
hugs to you!!

Xandra,
Any side effects from the Lunestra?

Susan,

Wow. I am kind of inbetween. I go to bed around 11:30 and get up around 8:00. I reaaaallllly need my sleep. I bet you get LOTS done when you wake up at 4:30 in the morning!

That pizza picture is hilarious. I've never heard of pizza trolls before. Odd. :-)

Yeah Janet, they're a big problem here in Michigan ;o)

You mean I will again have some time to myself when my children (and myself) are older? I have 3 that are 5 and under...I'm lucky I can just wake up! I have never had a problem of falling asleep - but at least I know if that changes, I have found a new time to accomplish my quiet time and blogging time! Bring on the 40's! :-D heehee

That is so funny. I can relate to much of it. I have had recent nights of insomnia too (gotta love that Ambien CR), sometimes I'm afraid to go to sleep because I don't know what the night will hold. I can totally relate to not spending much one on one time with the Lord. I need to go back to my routine of reading my Bible FIRST in the morning!

We are early birds here too.

And yes, the 40's have been interesting. Maybe I will have to start getting up instead of trying to go back to sleep.

And whoever ate the pizza let the best part. ;)

Looking forward to the new header and a new year.

How funny!
I think it's amusing to see all the trails my little trolls leave behind every morning!
happy new year.
2008 will be great!!

Our sons stay up so late and then get up at noon or 1 o'clock. It's very hard to syncronize our schedules! I am not a morning person, so my quiet time might be late at night when my husband is asleep. We, too, find "evidences" on our arrival to the kitchen in the morning. :)

Sheila said...

I too am not a night owl and have often said that I turn back into a pumpkin!

Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year!

I think as we get older which I am! we tend to sleep less. That is our time with the Lord, He knows what he is doing.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Karen Hossink said...

OK, hold on just a minute. What's this about sleep problems? I've never heard about this coming with age. I often have sleepless nights, and I'm only 36. Are you telling me it's going to get worse???
Honestly, sometimes I don't mind the awake time. I lay in bed and pray and have had some wonderful times with God that way. But, really, is it going to get worse?

LadySnow said...

I guess it's good to know that they were "in" the house and not out roaming. ;D

Praise and Coffee said...

Sharon,
I agree!

Karen,
I'm really not sure.
I just know that for me it's gotten much worse the last couple of years.

Sometimes I do just lay there too and talk with the Lord. Thankfully, He's always awake!

Funny post! I'm one of those nutty night owls. I'd be the one up late eating the pizza. :)

Happy new year!

I just found your blog and absolutely love it! Yay for "trolls"...I'm about to be a senior in college and my friends and I are finding that our bodies seem to be wanting to leave the troll stage for the adult world. We feel very old!
