Ever travel with your husband? As in, reading maps and whatnot???
Lots of fun!
I believe that traveling together can give you many opportunities to get offended and frustrated with your spouse. I’ve talked to a few women this past week about this very subject. Like us, they have traveled over 20 hours to get to these races and it has given them plenty of opportunities to get their feathers ruffled.
This all reminds me of a few scriptures:
Eccl 5:2
2 Do not be quick with your mouth,
do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God.
God is in heaven and you are on earth,
so let your words be few.
NIV
James 1:19-20
19 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
20 for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
NIV
Slow to speak… I’m working on that one and had a great chance to do so this week. When we pulled into our vendor spot last night and the rig didn’t fit… it was best for me to be SLOW to speak! If I would have started trying to tell him where we should go and how we should move, I’m quite sure it would not have gone over well. Especially because I have no idea what I’m talking about and if I stressed about it or seemed frustrated, it would have further raised the tension of an already overwhelming situation. It’s not easy to back up and wiggle around 75 ft of vehicle! But my man did it!
Have you ever put thought into this verse:
Prov 13:10
10 Pride only breeds quarrels,
but wisdom is found in those who take advice.
NIV
In other words… the only reason we quarrel is PRIDE. Whenever there is a quarrel, pride is involved in at least one, but probably both sides.
And what about this one…
Prov 20:3
3 Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling.
NLT
Ouch, does that one hit home with anyone but me?!
Have you ever been in the kind of mood when you just kept insisting on quarreling? I have and results of it are not so good. The Bible clearly calls us a fool if we keep up this kind of behavior.
But, it is honorable to avoid a fight. I love that. I want to be a woman of honor, don’t you?
Let’s be woman of honor and see how many times this week we can avoid an argument!
Our hope is in Him,

I was just thinking about you yesterday--strange.:)
I am doing a lot of keeping my mouth shut at this time.
When I don't understand and am feeling a tad lost--it is time to keep my mouth shut and just call out to Him.
And I think the instructional guidance come better from God to my husband than through me. :)
That took me awhile to recognize--sometimes He still has to remind me of that truth.
Glad ya'll are having a good time on your trip.
Thanks for the great reminder.
Great words.
I have learned over the years to measure my words before saying them at times. I love avoiding an argument that is so pointless.
Have a great Tuesday!
Such wonderful truths you set before us, Sue. I'm reading the book, Respectable Sins, and the chapter this morning was "Anger" and the author points out that Anger always involves our pride which is exactly what you are confirming here. I love it the way The Lord speaks the same message to us from many voices and avenues. The Holy Spirit is so awesome!!!!!

You're so right! It seems every time my husband and I go on a long trip together, we have at least one fight. Very good words.
Sharon,
You were thinking about me??? How sweet!
Susan,
I love it when God does that!
Hi there. Met you over at Amrita's. Good reminders here that I can't hear too much. I find when I'm walking in the Spirit this is very easy to accomplish. Walking in the flesh leads me down the other path. Ugh.
Love your place here!
This really comes at such a wonderful time!!! We are heading out of town on Saturday for a camping trip! (our first as a family) There is still lots to do in the way of packing and getting everything together. Please keep us in your prayers! I am sure we (hubby and I) both have our own thoughts on HOW it should all be done. This is such a wonderful reminder for me...I don't want to be a fool, I want to be honorable!
The road trip should be okay...the hubby has something like "TomTom" on his phone...no maps for me to look at!!!! WOOHOO!!!!
I remember pointing out to our children as they were growing up that all of their arguments stemmed from pride or selfishness. Almost always we could trace things back to one of those two things. And not just THEIR arguments, but ours as well. Remembering these truths in the heat of the moment is always the challenge! Thanks for a great reminder...
Thanks for sharing...really needed to hear that.
quick to speak and keeping my mouth shut are hard, but I'm working on them.
You are right, pride gets in the way a lot.
Thank you for the reminders... I'm expanding on this over at my blog - come join me when you have the moment; I hope you don't mind.
God Bless, HL
So true my friend!
Awesome word!! Very true, Holding on to that gentle answer that turns away wrath:)Sweet gentle spirit...
Sometimes it's so hard to avoid that quarrel, but it always feels so good when we do! Great scripture references. You always bless me with your insight and reminders.

Travel definately puts a couple to the test :)
Words to be taken to heart....
I have a tendency to say before thinking when speaking to family....especially my hubby. And am one of those that likes to have the last word
Thank you for reminding us.....
Deb,
That's such a great verse too... "a soft word turns away wrath."
Love it!
This is exactly why we are flying this year to our vacation spot.
How true and when you work together every day it is also a good time to hold the tongue.
ALWAYS good advice! I totally agree!
Sandy
Traveling, and hanging wall paper! My hubby and I hung wall paper together - ONCE. In 14 years of marriage I cannot think of a single significant argument we've had. But that time we were hanging wall paper - that got us close!
Sue,
I should have come by and read that on Tuesday, but as God would have it I really needed it TODAY!!!
Thanks for the gentle reminder that it is our PRIDE (stinky word) that keeps a fight going when it should have never started.
Great words my friend...
Melissa
